Castles around Neuschwanstein are in walking distance to the old, but vibrantly alive town of Fuessen. Castles, Cloisters, Citadels were not only built under King Ludwig II of Bavaria but date as far back as 1200.  The rich history of this area itself has thoroughly formed this romantic and spectacular landscape. The old Roman Road  Via Claudia  passed through here. And today, the Romantic Road goes all the way from Wuerzburg to Innsbruck. Fuessen - has a picturesque old town center nestled between a couple of lakes. The delightful town with villages like Schwangau and Eisenberg are surrounded by southern mountains, some of which rise 2000 m,  live camera, Castle.
