Castle Neuschwanstein is in walking distance to the old, but vibrantly alive town of Fuessen . Castles, Cloisters, Citadels were not only built under King Ludwig II of Bayern ("Ludo") but date as far back as 1200.  The rich history of Neuschwanstein Country itself has thoroughly formed this romantic and spectacular landscape. The old Roman Road  Via Claudia  passed through here. And today, the Romantic Road goes all the way from Wuerzburg to Innsbruck. Fuessen - has a picturesque old town center nestled between a couple of lakes.
